Telluride Ski Resort

Telluride Colorado for Your Family Ski Trip

Telluride is a fantastic family ski resort - its sophisticated and scenic, with tons of terrain from tamed green and blue boulevards and sun soaked snow bowls and plenty of steep and deep to keep Dad happy. A beautiful Mountain Village is ideal for your slopeside lodging and serves as base camp for ski school and kids camp. And everywhere you turn is the breathtaking scenery of the San Juan mountains, and loads of Colorado great snow!

Telluride is upscale, with top ski in ski out hotels and 18 speedy ski lifts and gondolas that connect the expansive 2,000 acres of terrain. Telluride has a real European Alps feel - between the 14,000’ peaks, the beautiful alpine lodge architecture, and the celebs and top skiers that flock here. Still it remains family friendly, kids love this cowboy wild west town, and the story that Butch Cassidy robbed his first bank here.

Telluride’s terrain is some of the best in the country - scenic, soaring at 12,000,' and spread out over numerous peaks but still relatively easy to get around. Telluride has lots of extreme terrain but even intermediates can ride to the summit on the Gold Hill Express (chair 14) and peek over the edge into the jaw dropping Revelation Bowl, then saunter down the See Forever trail –enjoying Telluride's full lift serviced 3,845' of vertical. Lift 9 at Telluride, The Plunge, is part of the original 1972 ski terrain, provides classic steep pitched trails, Spiral Stairs, Bushwacker, East and West Drain, plus wonderful views as you descend towards town.

Prospect Bowl and Polar Queen offer acres of mellow wide open groomed runs, natural trails and a few gladed woods. Beginners love the 4.6 miles Galloping Goose and family friendly like Double Cabin and Sundance off Sunshine Express and Peek A Boo off the Village Express. Kids will like the three terrain parks at Telluride, The Race Arena and the Kids Zone.

Telluride has several spectacular ski to dining options from Alpino Vino - the highest restaurant in North America at 11,960,’ to the Umbrella Bar Bon Vivant, and après ski at Allred’s – in the gondi building 3:30-5:30, also open for special gondola dinners at night.

For the best lodging in Telluride Mountain Village, The Fairmont Franz Klammer Heritage Place offers luxurious residence condo style lodging in spacious two and three bedroom units with full hotel and concierge service, an indoor heated pool, plus a rooftop Himmel Spa and outdoor Hot Tub. You walk across the Pedestrian plaza to ski concierge (where your ski have been delivered to the slopes) to start skiing in the morning and hand your families' skis back to your ski valet at the end of the day.

Another ideal ski in ski out Telluride lodging property above the Village is The Mountain Lodge at Telluride with suites and condos in all sizes to suit your family plus a grand main Lodge with an après ski lounge for drinks and dining overlooking the beautiful outdoor jacuzzi. Both Telluride lodges are great for families - giving you the space and comfort of home plus the service of a fine hotel.

Telluride Mountain Village is brick heated pedestrian plaza surrounded by ski shops, cafes, restaurants, top ski hotels and an ice rink. Kids ski programs and Nursery are an easy drop off and pick up by the Gondola in the Children's Adventure Center.

You can take the free Gondola down to town for Telluride après ski, shopping and dinner (open till midnight), even a visit to the 100 year old Opera House. It’s a fantastic ride as you descend into town covered in blankets, sunset with the alpenglow over Telluride's peaks is excellent timing. Ask for a blanket from the lift attendants and snuggle up for the scenic ride down and back up as you admire the Telluride city lights sparkling.
