Belalp Switzerland Ski Vacation

Belalp Ski Resort is located in the beautiful Valais region of Switzerland, hence the name - belle alp. Skiing at Belalp is best known for its sunny south facing slopes up to 10,209' in elevation, and spectacular panoramas of the Matterhorn, and beyond to the Dom, Weisshorn and 17 other giant alpine peaks. Belalp's ski slopes are ideal for families - long, wide open and mostly above treeline, the longest run is 7.5 miles long, covering the 3,494' vertical. Even crazier than skiing all that way is take a 4.5 mile sled ride. Belalp skiing is on the  Aletsch Glacier, the Alps' longest glacier and the longest stream of ice anywhere. Belalp is very close to Aletsch Arena skiing of Bettmeralp, Riederalp and Fiescheralp as the crow flies - you can ski the ski trails across the valley.

Families can lodge at Belalp, a compact car free ski village at the base of the lifts, or stay in Blatten - the town below Belalp which is reached by cable car. Belalp and Blatten offer over 100 ski chalets, hotels and lodging, and restaurants plus a few après ski spots- but no the wild après ski party scene you might encounter at other Swiss and Austrian ski resort. Things are smaller and quieter in this ski village, perfect for a relaxing family ski trip in the Swiss alps.

The ski terrain of Belalp includes 25 groomed, or prepared, ski runs covering 37 miles of ski terrain, plus plenty of terrain off piste, all accessed by 9 lifts. One of the wildest events in Belalp is the January Witch week, when locals dress in witch costumes, a cauldron is lit and the highlight is the Belalp Hexe race when 1500 participants dress in fantastic witch and goblin costumes, and race down the 7 mile ski slopes with brooms and blades, quite a sight.

Belalp Bahnen Ski Resort Stats: Elevation 10,209'. 6,715' Base 3,494' vertical drop, 9 lifts, 25 prepared trails plus off-piste.
The nearest train station to Belalp is Brig, under 5 miles away.
