Georgia Coast

Georgia, sweet Georgia… the place that inspires sweet songs, with its swaying spartina grass, sweet tea, sweet shrimp and grits, and slower pace in the aptly named Low Country  – this is the hub of southern living. The folks are fine and friendly with the most endearing southern accents. Georgians are cool, some are so refined, others are relaxed – even a little red-necky with their monstrous pickup trucks, fishing boats and big ole’ patriotic flags.

What we love most about Georgia is the coast, the barrier islands so ideal for boating, exploring by bike, golf cart, or even horseback.

Georgia’s Golden Isles are a gem, with posh historic resorts like The Cloisters at Sea island, Sea Island Resort on St Simons Island and Jekyll Island Club on Jekyll – where the entire island is a gorgeous state park.

Savannah is a soulful spirited city, Charleston’s wild stepsister with equally fantastic architecture and history, just a slightly more devilish side when it comes to bars, nightlife and ghost tours.

Skidaway is home to a lovely retirement residential resort community – The Landings with a golf course for every day of the week, and four elegant Club Houses. We have yet to discover Tybee Island, just beyond Savannah, and St Catherine’s and Sapelo Islands.

Georgians exude is a laid back, laissez-faire attitude. What they are fiercely proud of though is their southern cuisine, spicy, salty, fried, buttery deliciousness. Try a Low Country Boil loaded with spicy shrimp, sausage, corn on the cob and potatoes – perfection, roll up your sleeves and have a frosty beverage and napkins handy. Fried green tomatoes sound funky but their fantastic. Hush puppies – shhh- I can’t confess how much I love these deep-fried savory donuts – hush y’all. Shrimp and Grits, yes please. Native peaches and pecans infuse many sweet Georgian dishes too.

Georgia is thirteenth state of the 13 original colonies, founded by James Oglethorpe in 1733, with so much history, landmarks, plantations and parks. See why this gentile land of seacoast, lakes and mountains, the Peach Tree State, has inspired so many stories and sultry seductive songs.
