Mayflower is a new ski resort community being developed just south of Deer Valley Resort in Utah, between Park City and Heber City. This new village and ski area is actually located near the base of Deer Valley’s Jordanelle gondola, and overlooks Jordanelle Reservoir. The new resort community is underway with what will become 400 skiable acres spread over 1000 acres of terrain mostly north-facing with eventually up to 5 new lifts.
Mayflower Mountain Resort, so named for now as its off the Mayflower Mine Road, has a targeted opening date of the 2024-25 ski season, but already 26-miles of roads and infrastructure are in place which you can see from the slopes of Deer Valley and US 40. Mayflower Mountain Resort’s tenure is 5,600 acres on the west side of U.S. 40, about half the size of Park City.
“Mayflower” (stay tuned for its official naming – hopefully something catchier than a pilgrim puritan connotation) is being developed by Extell Utah, parent company of developments including Four Season at Vail, Hard Rock, Park Hyatt and W Hotel in New York City, plus some of the swankiest penthouses in Manhattan listed for over $200 mill.
Extell’s Mayflower Mountain Resort is in the MIDA Project Area (Military Installation Development Authority) of Wasatch County, Utah. It is proposed to be North America’s newest world-class alpine village to be developed since the 1980s – Snowbasin. Whether it will be a third ski resort in the Park City area, or become part of Deer Valley, remains to be seen. Given its abutting of Deer Valley, that would make sense, but no agreement has been formulated.
The resort is approved for up to 1,560 residential units and another 800 in hotel rooms and suites. The plan is to create a ski village and golf community with multiple luxury and lifestyle-branded hotels and more than 1,000 private residences ranging from estate lots to luxury condominiums.
Mayflower’s MIDA aspect of the project allots for military accommodations of 100 hotel rooms set aside for military personnel at discounted rates. So clearly this is not intended to be a private ski resort, like Yellowstone Club in Montana, nearby Wasatch Peaks Ranch in Utah on the way to Snowbasin Resort and Powder Mountain Utah which has a semi-private mountain retreat club model. Mayflower includes land set aside for workforce housing and a recreation center that will be open to the public. There will also be hiking and biking trails.
