Hotel Ad’Eldorado Crans Montana review

For a traditional Swiss family-owned hotel with a great location minutes from the skiing in the heart of Crans Montana village, Hotel Ad’Eldorado is ideal. Ad’Eldorado is a casual classic Swiss chalet near the Crans Montana lake.

Ad’Eldorado is very family friendly, children are welcome, there’s a relaxed vibe, and you can book half board, with breakfast and dinner included – making dining and logistic easy.

Rooms at Ad’Eldorado are classic Swiss, with pine woodwork, minimalist alpine décor, and beautiful mountain views from most rooms. Larger family suites are available. We loved the traditional down duvets on the beds. Thoughtful amenities in the bath plus a mini-fridge made it homey.

Outside Hotel Eldorado is a mountain view terrace where you can play with kids in the snow. Just a short walk or shuttle drive away is the family learn to ski area “Snow Island” by Crans Montana’s famous golf course. It’s a perfect plateau and setting for beginners and young ski families.

Evenings at Hotel Ad’Eldorado there’s a common living room with fireplace, perfect for relaxing après ski, before nightly dinner.  You can order a drink at the bar, sit by the fireplace in the living room that leads to the mountain view dining room. There is also a playroom for kids upstairs. We looked forward to dinner each night, the plate du jour menu. We savored delicious salmon one night with a fabulous warm chocolatey dessert. Traditional fondue was another decadent meal with excellent local cheese AOC du Valais.  A bountiful breakfast of pastries, fresh baked breads, yogurt and granola, cheese, meats and salmon, plus fresh cooked eggs and bacon or ham, is spread out each morning.

Didier is the owner and chef – he’s very accommodating, providing helpful info in English, French or German. He and Lucie have been operating the property for decades with pride.

To go skiing at Crans Montana, Didier will shuttle you to the Merbe Cry d’Er gondola in their hotel van from 8:30 – 10am, or you can walk the 10 minutes through town. Eldorado’s convenient ski room offers storage for your gear plus dryers for your boots, helmets, and gloves, which keeps families organized on ski mornings and also frees up room in your accommodations.

Ad’Eldorado is affordable, when compared to how pricey Crans Montana can be, like the 5-star Crans Ambassador.

Crans Montana is a major ski resort in Valais to visit on a Swiss ski safari including neighboring Anzère, Grimentz Zinal, and other smaller family Swiss ski areas in the Rhone valley. It’s just two hours from Geneva, or by train then a funicular from the village of Sierre.
